Living in the Man’s World

You can claim my freedom –
I gave it away for free
But you can’t stop my thoughts
And that’s what makes me, ME.

I wore your shackles
And accepted your rule.
I thought I was fitting in.
I was a fool.

You wanted a Tin Man –
No heart, no brain.
You wanted a robot
That you could train.

I thought it was love
To give in to you.
I didn’t realize that
There was nothing else to do.

It took me some time
To understand my mistake.
I was supposed to exist ;
Not feel heartache.
