Limerick – Return to Innocence

With the Great Indian Festival of Diwali right around the corner, it’s inevitable that the first thing that pops into my mind on reading “celebrations” would be this. There are several romantic tales that we, as children, would hear about the origin of Diwali. I don’t know how much of that is true, but I definitely appreciate all the rituals that surround it. The soft glow of the diyas (lamps) as they fight with the growing darkness of the night; and the occasional crackers putting the stars to shame with their display of colours and light. Here’s my bit for the Limerick Challenge Week 43.

She walks carefully, holding the candle up high.

Each lamp that she lights bursts aflame with a sigh.

With the darkness defeated,

Her chores are completed.

She settles down to watch the stars burst in the sky.
