Glass Animals

We started off together; two souls walking into the setting sun

While everyone else was running in the other direction.

With no name to my face and no face to go with your name,

Something bound us together, different yet the same.

Every step I took brought me closer to what I wanted to let go.

The more you held on, the farther you were pushed away so.

You looked up at me, in mid-step, and with mute eyes we conversed

The moment wasn’t over; but we knew things could never be reversed.

We are both but glass animals, magicked into being alive.

So fragile and transparent, it was impossible for us to survive.
